The long-distance regional train ride on four different trains between Rome and Ravenna went probably as well as that kind of trip could. It was cloudy with periods of rain all day, but felt a little warmer once I arrived in Ravenna. There were only a few hours of daylight left on the way to dinner, but I found out Ravenna is the site of several UNESCO landmarks -- all churches that have very ancient Christian mosaics in them (which I hope to check out tomorrow). It is a cool little town that has a very different feel to it than any of the other places I've been in Italy. Also, (a big plus in my book) is that they love cycling here -- there are cyclists of all ages, shapes, and sizes, there seem to be as many women as men cycling, and it seems like there are more bike racks for parking bikes than there parking spots for cars. I only saw one bike that seemed damaged.

Plus, I think I had the best calzone for dinner I have ever had! Right now it is about 11:10 p.m. and people have been driving around honking their horns and singing/cheering in the streets for at least the last fifteen minutes -- apparently Bologna beating Napoli in futbol is a reason for huge celebration (correction: it was the win of
Juventus that was causing all the cheering)!
